You currently have 0 posts. Britannica on Macedonia 2007 The people Ethnicity and language Macedonia has inherited a complex ethnic structure. The largest group, calling themselves Macedonians (about two-thirds of the population), are descendants of Slavic tribes that moved into the region between the 6th and 8th centuries AD. Their language is very closely related to Bulgarian and is written in the Cyrillic script. In language, religion, and history, a case could be made for identifying Macedonian Slavs with Bulgarians and to a lesser extent with Serbs. Both have had their periods of influence in the region (especially Serbia after 1918); consequently, there are still communities of Serbs (especially in Kumanovo and Skopje) and Bulgarians. The people who form the majority of the inhabitants of the contemporary Macedonian republic are clearly not Greeks but Slavs. However, this ecclesiastical tradition, taken together with the long period during which the region was associated with the Greek-speaking Byzantine state, and above all the brief ascendancy of the Macedonian empire (c. 359–321 BC) continue to provide Greeks with a sense that Macedonia is Greek. Yet, although the inhabitants of the present-day republic are Slavs, it remains to be determined what kind of Slavs they are. Among the short-lived states jostling for position with Byzantium were two that modern Bulgarians claim give them a special stake in Macedonia.................. Vŭtreshnata Makedono-Odrinska Revolutsionna Organizatsiya secret revolutionary society that operated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to make Macedonia an autonomous state but that later became an agent serving Bulgarian interests in Balkan politics.......... IMRO's terrorist bands operated in conjunction with Bulgaria's foreign policy, which was designed to force a redistribution of Macedonia. |

| We live among them | Re: Britannica on Macedonia 2007 I read it again, last night, and as my name intimates (Constantinos) I have the same virtue. I am stable to my opinions and yes I believe that text is about a joke. I just look it from my visual angle and I determine the name Makedonia assigns specific location and specific human subrace . Those brittanica-people as they look it from their visual angle, they see a specific location only. They dont care if the people who live there are europeans or african or asiats. They just keep calling them Makedonians no matter their origin (Bulgarians, Slavs etc)and which is the reason? I made up two reasons. The first is that as they (Brittanica-people) are foreigners (barbaroi), they cant understand that the nations give names to lands and not the opposite. Actually, I believe there is nothing binding them with their lands because of their phycological idiosyncrasy. If Hellas conquers Britain and kill every redneck up there, we won't change our national name over to British despite the new inhabited lands. Second thought is that our western allies always turn a blind eye , just not to recognize the hellenic rights. Hellas always has to prove her (its) history through ancient scripts or sculptures, or ruins and too often , despite the evidences ,which even a baby could distinquish whats the correct conclusion , our allies just dont see it....! (a sense to greeks that macedonia is greek!!!!how pathetic ) example: I watched a documentary on tv about an african tribe. They keep a custom of climbing on trees and jumping to ground with only protection from the smashing , some tendrils fixed around their ankles. The journalist claimed that this custom is 10.000 years old , because they told him so! On the other hand , that hellenic subrace the Macedonian (Makedonikon) with such wealth of evidences of its origination, every day has to fight for justification.
