I am interested in buying a property in Greece and as I frequently use Athens airport I thought Artemis (Loutsa) would be an ideal place. The problem is the local town hall does not seem to welcome people from abroad who do not speak Greek. I read in a property forum that people working in the town hall will only assist if you give them a power of attorney or other incentive. This doesn't seem a very good advertisement to encourage foreigners to invest in Greece. I am sure this sort of thing goes on in every country, but I heard the Greek Government were particularly keen for foreigners to buy property or land in Greece to help the economy. This won't happen unless the bureaucracy in the town halls is stopped.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems but are you sure thats the reason?

I find it hard to reconcile this version with the relities on the ground. To buy property in Greece one has to follow certain well established criteria and procedures, legal procedures.

If these are fulfilled there is no problem. The procedures may not be simple, or " fast tracked", but they work , and work well. I know more than a dozen foreigners from various part of europe and Ameria ( whom I guided) who had to go through the process, and are now legitimate owners of property.
