New Macedonia Name Proposal 'Soon'

I dont like how this sounds. If Im not mistaken it states that their passport will spell out Macedonian? This is ludicrous. The whole point of the veto was because they used the name Macedonia but its ok to let them use the name in their passport to represent them???

Skopje _ A fresh Macedonia name proposal featuring a geographical adjective, and guarantees preserving Skopje identity will be offered soon, Skopje media report citing unnamed diplomats.


The plan is to be offered to both Athens and Skopje by July 9, by the United Nations mediator in the long-running dispute, Matthew Nimetz, who is planning to initiate “another round of diplomatic contacts and direct meetings with both sides,” Skpoje's daily Utrinski Vesnik reported.

The idea envisages that Skopje’s constitutional name “Republic of Macedonia”, which Athens disputes, should remain for home use only. Skopje passports will also contain this name as a guarantee for the identity that should be freely expressed as Macedonian.

On the other hand Skopje would have to add a geographical adjective to its name for use in bilateral and international relations, the diplomats say, in order for Athens to grant its smaller neighbor the much desired NATO accession.

Athens objects to the name ‘Republic of Macedonia’ arguing it implies Skopje’s territorial claims on Greece’s own northern province of the same name. In April, Athens blocked Skopje’s NATO accession and threatened to do the same with its bid to join the European Union.

At the last round of the UN-sponsored “name” talks held last week in both countries, there were no concrete name proposals but rather solution-finding “ideas” that were considered, Nimetz said.

The talks have been ongoing at the UN for 15 years without success

How about "Wishing We Were Macedonian" or W.W.W.M as the name of their country. This should appease both sides. The skops get to have a Macedonia reference in their name and thats what these losers are looking for. I really believe I should be at those meetings

I am going to guess that the "geographical adjective" mentioned in the article is either "Upper", "North", or "Northern."

You most likely have a point and think they will use North/Northern Macedonia as a name which in all reality defeats the purpose of the veto. Personally in my opinion the name Macedonia should not be used period.

Το όνομα "Μακεδονία" είναι γεωγραφικός όρος.

Δεν υπάρχει καμμία αρχαιολογική ή επιστημονική απόδειξη ότι η περιοχή έχει κατοικηθεί από μακεδονικό εθνός.
(ακόμη πιο απλά δεν υπήρξε ποτέ μακεδονικό έθνος όπως π.χ. δεν υπήρχε Αθηναικό ή Σπαρτιάτικο έθνος)

Η ονομασία μιας περιοχής αναφέρεται σε κάποια ομάδα ή κάποια φυλή ανθρώπων πού κατοικούν στην περιοχή αυτή.

Ιστορικά η περιοχή αυτή και το όνομα συνδέεται μόνο με την Ελλάδα και τη Βουλγαρία.

Τό τμήμα που ανήκε στην Βουλγαρία κάποτε κατοικήθηκε απο τούς σημερινούς Σκορπιανούς*.

Δεν μπορούν επομένως οι μαβλάκες* να συζητούν ούτε για εθνικές ταυτότητες (national identities) ούτε και για διαβατήρια αφού ποτέ δέν είχαν δικό τους κράτος και πολύ περισσότερο με το όνομα Μκεδονία (που τους βάφτισε για πρώτη φορά το 1943 ο Joe Blow Tito)

Τελικά εγω προσωπικά προτείνω τό εξής,

το GreekRealm πρέπει να στείλλει στό επόμενο meeting την Hellenika να τους βάλει όλους στη θέση τους για να ξεμπερδεύουμε μια για πάντα με την υπόθεση αυτή.

North Macedonia is not accepable to the greek people.If its up to me i would close the border and start sending some artillery shells from time to time over the border

A fast solution to resolve the name issue with skops is for them to be callled slavomacedonia,with no claims on Greek history. Like their old leader gligorov once said we are slavs and have nothing to do with Ancient greece
