Someone pull out the violin and play tune! Boo hoo to Gruevski lol. I dont know why the Greek people would be ashamed if anything the people of Skopje will be ashamed because they will one day realize that you cant just create an ethniticity overy by trying to steal someone elses.

Skopje _ Greece does not want a quick and fair solution to the ‘name’ row and is deliberately trying to stall UN talks, Macedonia’s Premier Nikola Gruevski claims.

Gruevski told the local MIA news agency that the Greek side is playing dirty in an attempt to blackmail Macedonia.

“The [UN] mediator [Matthew] Nimetz and the United States are putting a lot of effort in to this matter. Still, it is obvious that the Greek Prime Minister [Kostas Karamanlis] has no intention on closing this issue in the near future,” Gruevski alleged.

Gruevski said ongoing talks in New York show Athens’ attempt to dictate a solution in the row through political bullying.

“The Greek negotiator is saying what will pass and what won’t in an extremely arrogant manner. There is not much negotiation in it. He constantly seeks ways for stalling proposals for a solution,” Gruevski argued.

Despite all that “I will be happy if a turning point happens,” Gruevski said, claiming that the Greek people in 30 or 40 years will be ashamed of their politicians’ acts against neighbouring Macedonia.

Gruevski reaffirmed his position that a referendum should be held in Macedonia if his country accepts any compromise solution with Greece.

Many, including the opposition Social Democrats and the country’s President Branko Crvenkovski see this position as an obstacle to finding a solution since it is highly unlikely that Macedonians would vote for changing the name of the country.

Athens objects to Skopje’s use of the name Macedonia arguing that it might lead Skopje to make territorial claims on its own northern province of the same name.

In April Athens vetoed Skopje’s invitation to join NATO due to the unresolved 17 year- long name row. Greece is threatening to do the same with Macedonia’s European Union bid this autumn.

Senior NATO, European Union and United States officials have urged for a quick compromise. Media speculate that the outgoing US administration of George W. Bush will push once more for a solution this month.

Meanwhile Greek media report that Nimetz is to visit both countries on Thursday and Friday and that at a meeting set for Wednesday, the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will press her Greek counterpart, Dora Bakoyannis for speeding up negotiations.

If a compromise is reached by July 9, Macedonia could still catch up with the other two countries that received NATO invitations in April. On July 9 Albania and Croatia are signing their NATO accession protocol.

I don't understand the role of "might lead". The Skopians are already making territorial claims - it is even in official documents of their state.

Fascist anti-Greek propaganda is spread everywhere in Skopia and the citizents are brainwashed by the media and the educational system. And with this propaganda they managed to affect the majority of the Slavs of Skopia, especially the youth. They all have hatred and fanatism against Greece and the Greeks, and they make claims about a future "liberation" of what they call "Aegean Macedonia".

They teach in their books that Greece is illegaly occupying Thessaloniki and other parts and that one day they will get it back.

Yes those people are filled with hate because their parents, education system and government teach them that they are something they are not. They teach them that the Greeks are trying to deny them of an ethniticty that they dont belong to to begin with.

This whole situation is just unreal. Has anyone ever bothered to ask these losers why they want to name their country Macedonia in the first place if not to make territorial claims and steal our history? I wish Dora Bakoyiannis would bitch slap Condeeleza Rice already and ask her that. If Greece lets them name their country Macedonia, they have basically handed over a piece of their country along with any history that comes with it.

So what is it about that, that none of these idiots seems to understand when they talk about speeding up negotiations and compomises. Yes Greece, hurry up and hand over a part of your country. Stupid f**&rs!

I thought the biggest "crybaby" skop moment was the speech they made after getting rejected at NATO. I honestly thought that when they "stormed out" the guy was going to start sucking his thumb while holding a teddy bear...

I just hope that Bush doesn't do any serious blackmail to get Hellas to sell out. Bush has failed in everything he wanted to do with foreign policy (Israeli peace deal, Poland/Georgia in NATO, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. etc.) so he might out of desperation do something so he can claim "he solved the name dispute".
