Defence Minister Meimarakis visits Bosnia

SARAJEVO - Bosnia-Herzegovina's and Greece's defence ministers, Selmo Cikotic and Evangelos Meimarakis, signed an agreement on defence cooperation between the two countries in Sarajevo Tuesday. The agreement lists more than 10 different programmes of cooperation in 2008, including the education of Bosnia's soldiers in Greece.

"We believe that the cooperation between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Greece will further improve and intensify," Cikotic told reporters.

He also stressed the importance of Greek support for Bosnia's progress towards integration into Europe and the transatlantic alliance.

Meimarakis expressed Greece's support for Bosnia's full NATO membership saying he hoped Bosnia would soon reach that goal.

The two ministers also discussed the overall security situation in the region, with the focus on Kosovo.

While in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Meimarakis visited Greek troops serving with the European Union Force (EUFOR) in the country.

Meimarakis also met with Bosnia-Herzegovina's tripartite presidency in Sarajevo.
