Does anyone like French music here? I really like it.
This is one of my favorite singers (Serge Lama). He is singing a song of Lara Fabian but with lyrics that he composed for her. It is very touching to see.

Here is another very nice song. Charles Aznavour (an Artist of the Century) gave a very touching interpretation of "Oh! Comme ils disent" in this video.

Its sounds good but for some reason I cant listen to music if I cant understand the lyrics. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
A very famous French singer said once that people who are more intellectual would try to listen and understand the lyrics first and then listen to the music, while the more average people would listen to the music first. You obviously belong to the first class of people then, Prokomenos. I listen to the music first and last. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. French music is pretty varied, because most of the famous French singers are/were immigrants who went to France to try their luck or are/were born in France from immigrant parents, like Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour, Christophe, Joe Dassin (he is the stepson of Melina Mercouri), Serge Gainsbourg, Julien Clerc, Dalida, Claude Francois, Leo Ferre, etc., etc. It is pretty much like a melting pot.

Well, i have to disagree with that French singer on trying to understand the lyrics more showing more intelligence. Most lyrics of any type of music is, the more you hear it is simply "bad poetry" its the music that hits at a primal level.

I agree with you, Megale, that the music touches more than the lyrics, especially if the lyrics don't have much meaning. I listen to music in different languages that I don't understand, and so the language is pretty much a music in itself to me.
Apollyon, I am surprised to hear what you said. I would have thought that French sounds nice since it has a lot of Greek (and Latin) roots, but maybe to a Greek ear, it does not sound so great. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
Behelit, I don't understand Greek but I find Greek songs very nice.
Personally, I find Greek the most beautiful language in the world, and I don't say this because it is a Greek forum here. But French is also a very nice language to me.
