![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Nuclear Plant in Turkey 12 Feb 2008 20:36:00 By Nasos Bratsos Turkey has decided to build its first nuclear power plant at at Akkuyu Energy Minister Hilmi Guler said on Tuesday. The plan was dropped in July 2000 amid financial difficulties and protests from environmentalists in Turkey and neighbouring Greece and Cyprus, as they raised safety concerns, arguing that the proposed site is only 25 kilometres from a seismic fault line. The government will make the tender announcement on the construction of a nuclear plant on February 21, while the plant is expected to become operational in 2013 or 2014. Turkey plans to build three nuclear plants with a total capacity of about 5,000 megawatts in hopes of preventing a possible energy shortage and reducing dependence on foreign supplies. | Admins | Re: Turkey has decided to build its first nuclear power plant This is known from some years ago. Bulgaria has also (2 if I am not mistaken) nuclear reactors. Greece will be surrounded by nuclear reactors in a few years. Without having a nuclear reactor (besides the Demokritos research one) in our own country we will be in the risk of all these. I even started believing that Greece must build a nuclear reactor too, since it will not make a difference enviromentally as we will be already surrounded. Something like this would maybe solve the energy problem as we keep having it and we import energy from Albania, Skopia and Bulgaria during the summer. |

| GR Elite | Re: Turkey has decided to build its first nuclear power plant Greece’s unique landscape, 75% is mountains, its extremely large coast line, and ample sunshine, make it a perfect candidate for harvesting the Aeolian and Solar energy. Nuclear Power is still very expensive to be produced. What is even more expensive and dangerous is the disposal of nuclear waste. I would think that better attention and familiarization of thermal management techniques in construction along with efficiently designed High-Voltage and Low-Voltage hardware could be more beneficial to Greece in the long term when combined with Green-Energy. Don’t forget that we can always import electricity if needed from other nations, and let them destroy their environment with nuclear waste. – My two cents - Interestingly enough on Wednesday’s Science News: Saturnian moon has more energy than Earth's oil and gas reserves click here for the link: To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. | GR Elite | Re: Turkey has decided to build its first nuclear power plant Iwould not be surprised if they buy from Canada. They were going to buy one from Canada here a long time ago to make energy and nukes. I remember the Greek community here protesting the government not to sell. Canada sells to anyone. They sold to China, India and Pakistan which made nuclear weapons material from them. Turks will use Iran as an excuse to make nuclear weapons. |

What I mean is that the existence of these parks don't allay the pollution coming out from the thermoelectric plants of Megalopolis and Ptolemaida. Greece must look more to other forms of energy. | |

| GR Member | Re: Turkey has decided to build its first nuclear power plant NO BULGARIA has not got 2 nuclear reactors. They have not met that technology yet. Turkey will be produce its nuclear pipe by itself. We wont buy from canada. We have already bought 1 from canada in 2001 but never turned it into a reactor actually and resold it to korea. This time turkey is going to produce its own reactors totally. approximately 2000 nuclear engineer are going to work in this job. With this plant , we will be able to produce nuclear weapons. It will be under the control of military Last edited by Bora; 02-24-2008 at 04:10 PM. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Turkey has decided to build its first nuclear power plant Which is exactly why I want Greece to be able to build its own nuclear missles. I cant imagine what the world would be like for Greeks if Turks possesed nuclear missles. |
