After the U.S. Congress' Foreign Affairs Committee passed last week a draft resolution recognizing the Armenian genocide carried out by Turkish authorities early in the 20th century, Ankara recalled its ambassador from Washington for consultations and announced it could find another energy partner: Russia.

The U.S. Congress had already considered similar resolutions in 1974 and 1985, but did not adopt them. In 2007, the House Foreign Affairs Committee approved the draft resolution. At that time, as now, Ankara lodged a strong protest and recalled its ambassador. President George W. Bush had a difficult time persuading the Congressmen not to vote. This time matters are complicated by the fact that during his election campaign Barack Obama promised to recognize the Armenian genocide and many now expect him to be a man of his word.

If the turkish lobby pay the right amount of money to the right people like they always do they can have their genocidal commiting history erased atleast here in America.

The genocide will never be forgotten, it is just a matter of the USA electing a President that keeps his words and develops big enough balls to stand up to special interest groups and do the right thing rather than kiss ass all the time.
I honestly thought that this one was the one to do it but it appears he is made from the same stuff as all the others (gutless). And has the "audacity" to preach otherwise.

Re: U.S. recognition of Armenian genocide

Maybe there is a Russian lobby in America that will help the Armenian lobby because the Russians want to improve ties with Turkey and hurt American/Turkish ties.

HAHAHAHAHA!

Another great argument is to actually look at the most powerful lobbies in America. Why are they so strong? Could it be that these people were driven from their homelands during genocide and they were lucky enough to get away? If we take a look at the American lobbies they are all consistent in who is claiming they were victims of genocide. Jews, Armenians and Greeks.

Lastly I'd like to point out that America is going to pull out of Iraq soon and eventually from Afghanistan. The genocide resolution effectively tells us where American/Turkish relations are. Once the troops are out of Iraq and Afghanistan, there goes another argument to keep the resolution from the House. It's only a matter of time, Turkey's usefulness is declining steadily.

Re: U.S. recognition of Armenian genocide

I doubt it with the Orthodox Church gaining more and more influence in the Kremlin. Russia has more to gain from getting Turkey broken down. A newly emerged Pontus state and NE turkey given back to Armenia would be pro-Russia since those regions have many diaspora plus historical ties with Russia.

If there are many Armenians that live in Turkey in neighbouring regions to Armenia then yes that's very viable. How viable is Pontus becoming Greek again? It's geographically very far to Greece and there is virtually not a single Greek that lives there any longer. Same goes for Smyrna and Constantinople but at least they're geographically close. Those would have to be first no matter what.

You'd be surprised how many Greeks live in Pontos and throughout Turkey.
Greeks that have changed names and religion in name only.
They have dug up graves of "supposedly" Turks and the people buried in them had crossed hanging from their necks .... "krifei ellines xristeianoi".

Really? It's been nearly 100 years. If the parents aren't educating the children at home it's a lost cause. Remember the Turkish education system is not monitored by the EU or anyone, the Turks can teach the kids whatever they like.

Re: U.S. recognition of Armenian genocide

I heard there is lots of diaspora in Russia.

Also if turkey were to start falling apart for real, more people of Armenian, Greek, Assyrian etc. would make themselves known. Whether they can be trusted would be a different story but if turdkey were seriously widdled down it would happen.

Let's hope your right but time is most definitely on Turkey's side. Something needs to happen this century for sure.
