Probably one of the corniest movies ever made. I despised how it made us look like we are a backwards people. It was so overexagerated its not even funny but anyways to the point of why I started this thread. There was a part in the movie when the father say a nice quote which I like and use till this day, infact I will make it my signature....

There are two types of people Greeks and those who wish they were Greek....

I actually liked the movie and thought it was real funny. What do expect from Hollywood they always over exagerate everything. I like the quote though and I remember it from the movie.

In a way, I thought it poked fun at non-Greeks (especially Anglos and WASPS) for lacking a distinguishing culture of their own. An example is when Vardalos meets her boyfriend's very dull and bland parents.

On the negative side, the Greeks came off as being overexagerated vlaxoi and way too peasent-like!! Likeable but cartoonish at times. Some really cheesy stereotypes

The effect was that it was a small indie movie that outgrossed most of the Hollywood movies at the time. A nice big middle finger to Hollywood. People wanted to see Greeks than anything else.

So because of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" the system my give the greenlight to another Greek themed movie that could be less sterotypical and more real and better.

Another thing is, imagine if Hollywood writers and producers actually had an influence. Vardalo's would have an interracial partner and her brother would be a queer and her father would own a hot dog stand rather than a resturant. In a way, it was better that a Greek wrote and starred in it.

That movie was too funny. It sure did make us look like gyftoi but for a movie it was good.

That movie was ok. The best attribute of the movie was the father being proud to be Greek.

I watched this movie a few years ago. I've seen many people complaining that it ridicules the Greek-Americans since their behaviors in the movie are exagerated but all I have to say is that it was just a comedy, and in all comedies behaviors are exagerated.

The movie did not impress me personally as a comedy but I neither felt bothered.

What we have to feel bothered about are so-called "serious" movies about Greece (Troy, Alexander etc.) not comedies.

I've heard horrible things about "Alexander the Great" and I'm planning on NOT seeing it. Oliver Stone is the director, I get the point.

"Troy" wasn't too bad. It actually took itself too seriously. "The Clash of the Titans" was better.

Alexander movie was huge a Malakia! I saw it and I got seriously pissed off with it. I give that movie a 0. Troy was bad as well but for a movie it was alright. Obviously the story was altered but thats Hollywood. Now as for My big fat Greek wedding the movie I found funny especially with the father he was the whole movie! It was overexagerated but its a comedy like Ellinas said.

Alexander is not worth a dime the movie. You want to talk about a good example of a botched Hollywood flick that is it.
