Try to imagine the day The City was captured ( last days of May 1453) ,
but instead of Turks imagine west europeans (franks-celts-british -whatever)
If the situation was like that,today there would be none orthodox nor hellenic language ....might there was none hellen at all....

Last year, I was in the capital getting an award at the legislature. In the middle of the ceremony, a group of sign-carrying Turks showed up screaming and yelling. As they moved us away from the front of the building I looked to see what they were there for. They were holding signs saying that Greeks and Armenians are liars; Turkey never persecuted them; no Greeks were killed in those years; genocide never occurred. If these people were protesting that the Nazis never killed Jews, they would have been arrested. Yet they can interrupt a ceremony with blatant lies and an unbelievable denial of events that everyone knows occurred and no one does anything. Here's what I say:
NO ADMISSION TO THE EU UNTIL TURKEY OFFICIALLY APOLOGIZES TO ARMENIANS AND GREEKS FOR THE GENOCIDAL POLICIES OF THEIR GOVERNMENT IN THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY. COMPENSATION AND THE RETURN OF ANY ARTIFACTS TO SURVIVORS OR THEIR FAMILIES. I know some criticize the Jews and that's their perogative but at least they have the balls to demand what's right. And as bad as the Holocaust was, on a percentage basis, Greeks suffered far worse with the Turks and then the Germans. WHY ARE GREEKS SILENT ON THIS? IS IT ONLY THE DIASPORA GREEKS WHO ARE FIGHTING THE LIES OF THE SLAVS AND TURKS? I'm getting tired of no one listening.

Aside from all the atrocities, the holocaut with the Jews is actually different from the Greek/Armanien one. All Greeks and Armanians ask for is recognition and even an apology. After that I don't see Greeks and Armaniens going past that. With the Jews its gone beyond past the stages of recognition and apology, its become more of an industry. Its part of the school ciriculum and for a fee you can hear a survivor talk about their expirences. I do think Greeks and Armanians push these issues but the problem is that no one outside those communities care enough! The book that is just about the catastrophe of 1922 isn't going to be promoted or sell enough copies as Weisenthal's narrative.

They shove the Jewish holocaust down our throats! They force it on kids in school, they lead you to think that the only peoples ever wronged were the Jews. Millions upon millions died in WW2, yet all you ever hear about is the Jews. Everyone knows Hitler, but how about Stalin? There are an awful lot of "holocaust survivors" out there too.

Greece was devasted in WW2. The population decimated and yet to recover. Great book about it is Inside Hitler's Greece.

Those images and there are more of them, need to be shown constantly to any ignorant Greeks out there who say it's the past, or who somehow think that these savages could possibly be any different now. First opportunity they get they will do it again.

Those are the ones who think that history or the past is inconsequential. They are too stupid to realize that history is an important determinant of the future.
