Re: The Fall of Constantinople 1453

I got curious when I posted the link on the Crusades from wikipedia in another thread, so here I am reading about the fall of Constantinople.

These articles have more details about the Crusades. Disturbing to read.

The saddest part for me was the Fall of Constantinople. One of the greatest cities invaded and destroyed. That was the start of 500 years of hell for the people that had to live under Ottoman rule.

Re: The Fall of Constantinople 1453

It is sad when such an advanced city had to succomb to the Turks and before that to the Crusaders who were supposed to help it. My country was colonized by the French for 100 years and yes, I can very well imagine the extent of the pain of the Greek people who had to live for 500 years under the Ottaman rule. I can only praise the Greeks to have maintained their race and culture through the hardships. You are right to be proud to be Greeks.

Re: The Fall of Constantinople 1453

The Crusaders were nothing more than greedy savages. Some say the Crusaders is what weakened Constantinople. Who knows....
