It was the crusades that destroyed Byzantium. Not the Turks. Not to mention Byzantium was already economicly destroyed even before the crusades.

Yes, I agree that the Byzantine Empire was very weak when the Turks came along. Doesn't justify what happened when the Turks came.

Yes but in the Battle of Magikert the Byzantine army it's much more stroger compare the tourkish army but the bad strategy once again make this history...

Re: The Fall of Constantinople 1453

Also dont forget during the siege of Constantinople if the Ottomans did not posses the canon Constantinople might of possibly been saved. The walls surrounding her provided strong fortification. They did not know that the enemy possesed that huge canon. If they would of known ahead of time they might of had a different stragedy.

I will disaggre with you Mr.Proko
The use of canon was known to everyone
Even Constantinoupoli had smaller cannons
One of it made a minor damage to that Turkish Big Bertha

Re: The Fall of Constantinople 1453

Thats not the point. My point is if they did not have the canon the city might of been able to hold off longer and maybe in time for more troops to arrive. If that would of happen Im sure things would of been a lot different.

Re: The Fall of Constantinople 1453

Well i have heard from a historian that when turks entered the Polis , that attempt was their last..they didnt have any other force for another trial....
Maybe the things are better with the collapse of the Byzantium....
that made Hellenes to realize and remember again their ethnic id
