Byzantinians at Egypt

Sometimes I ask me how it could be that christian byzantinians in egypt prefer arabs to Konstantinopel.
Everyone know that there was a problem with religios pictures. But is this enough as problem that Byzantinians in egypt and other south regions did like the arab non christian leadership more than from their brothers in nothern Byzantium?

Perhaps there much no deeper problems, what do you think?

Believe it or not I just saw this lol. Sorry for my late response.

During the early time of Byzantine history their was clash between Christians in Byzantine. I dont remember everything in detail but a lot of had to do with iconoclasm. I will find the info I have and post it here.

Re: Byzantinians at Egypt

The Coptic Church split off from the other Christian Churches after the Council of Chalcedon in 451 over whether Christ had two natures (1 human, 1 divine) or just one. The Copts are monophysites believing Christ had only one nature.

This relgious difference with their Orthodox brothers led to animosity towards the Byzantines and the Copts welcomed the Arab invaders.

Re: Byzantinians at Egypt

The way it seems one worst enemy tends to be from the same religion. For example history of Orthodox Christians and Catholics. Or even now Shiites and Sunnies two Islamic religions slaughtering eachother over the way they interpret it.

That is so true.

Jonathan Swift said, “We’ve got enough religion to hate each other but not enough to love each other.”

Well, I am convinced that the reason is economical.
Byzantium had heavy taxes in antithesis Arabs conquerors

Thats a good point Apollyon. I actually have a couple of books on the history Byzantium and if Im not mistaken one of those books mentions something about heavy taxes imposed by the Byzantine empire although it does not state towards who.
