Thank you very much again, Megale. I checked some more videos and they are simply stunning. I especially like the two songs from the 18 lianotragoudia.

Ellinas, you are lucky to see him on Greek TV. Yes, I understand perfectly what you mean by life-long "rebel". Mikis has done everything, composing, singing, politics, being in prison for his ideas, etc. He has so much fire and life in him, he is like Zorba The Greek to me.
You should check websites where it talks about his life too, and quite a life hes had. And he wrote the score for the film "Zorba the Greek"

Re: Theodorakis-1970s

Thanks Megale. I know Mikis' life in general lines, and yes, it is a good idea to check the many web sites to read more about him when I have some more free time. He has his own official site too.

Yes, I know that he composed Zorba The Greek. I saw the movie when I was young and it was my first touch with Greek culture and Greek people.

Zorba is my hero (in addition to Socrates). :D

The Hasapiko part of the Zorbas song, is actually the introduction of "Strose to stroma sou gia dio" a song composed by Georgios Zambetas. Theodorakis liked it and copied it for the soundtrack of the Zorbas movie.

I am not trying to denigrate Theodorakis in any way, as I said I consider him one of the best Greek composers and a great person. I just mention this as information in the case you don't klnow it.

I did know that "Strose to stroma..." did have the same introduction as "zorba" i have a version of that song with Bithikotsis singing actaully. But i didn't know that Zambetas wrote the music though. I like Zambetas, not in my top 5 though.

Re: Theodorakis-1970s

I like that song "Strose ..." very much. Ellinas, you helped me solve the mystery why that song sounds similar to the music in Zorba. I thought that they put lyrics to the Zorba music, but somehow it did not sound all the same.

All that being said, I think that there is nothing better than this:

Re: Theodorakis-1970s

This is the French version of the Dance of Zorba sung by Dalida, a very famous French singer (of Egyptian descent).

I once heard a CD I think it was called Zorba The Greek - The Ballet or something like that. Does anyone know if there was actually a ballet the way classical ballet is danced?

Re: Theodorakis-1970s

Why is this song called Zorbas? I don't remember the music being in the movie. Is it actually in the movie?
