Re: Turkish and Kurd conflict

why ?

Prokomenos - we are talkin about a terrorist organization and you are about to write odes to them - how can you talk about human rights, then ?

they kill Kurds too, last week, 13 people were killed in Şırnak and they were all Kurdish-originated but Turkey do not say:

-ok, they were Kurdish- whatever...

they are Turkish citizen too and the murder of those innocent people would hurt Turkish government and Turkish community as much as murder of turkish-originated citizens.

PKK is a terrorist gropu and Turkey is so ' secular ' that in the Parliament, a party that supports PKK indirectly takes place because everyone has righ for policy in Turkey.

please, this subject is not a way for you to express your hate against Turks. this is a murder committed against all Humans.

Re: Turkish and Kurd conflict

Nope I didnt express my hate to the Turks by using the PKK. All I was saying is that its about time the Turks get a taste of their own medicine. How many millions of people have the Turks slaughtered in the last 500 and so years even till this day? It was only a matter of time. I believe in a saying what goes around comes around. Dont get me wrong the PKK is no friend of mine they would slaughter me in a heartbeat and they are muslim which in their eyes Im an infidel which is ok by me because they are infidels in my view as well. I also dont consider the Kurds terrorists they are more like freedom fighters and the Kurd is fighting an enemy that has slaughtered my people like cattle, taken land from my ancestors and more, so rightfully I will support them in this quest. The Kurds have a lot of hate towards the Turks with good reason.

Its true innocent people will pay the price by the PKK's actions but the Turks didnt give a rats ass about Greek, Armenian, Syrian and Kurdish children and so on. Turkey has gone unpunished for too long. Did you think that history will be forgotten?

Its funny how you speak about Human rights considering Turkeys murderous past. Winking smilie

All that aside what are the Turks planning on doing with this issue. Are they going to invade northern Iraq or what? Also from what I read here it looks like George Bush might lose his friends the Turks some info from your perspective?

Re: Turkish and Kurd conflict

Prokomenos, thanks for your answer. that is very polite of you.

i am not saying that Turks are angels with moustache and fez. no nationality is perfect ! there had been wars for thousands years and and a cliche resounds in my head saying:

- no peace unless war !

i want proofs - this can not be proceeded with a bunch of freaky dead people's photographs and cries.

Rebels kill 12 Turk troops

By Ferit Demir Reuters - 18 minutes agoTUNCELI, Turkey (Reuters) - Kurdish rebels killed at least 12 Turkish soldiers and wounded 16 others in an ambush on Sunday, prompting Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan to call crisis talks to consider a military strike against rebel bases in Iraq.

The attack, one of the worst in more than a decade by rebels of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), came four days after Turkey's parliament approved a motion to allow troops to enter northern Iraq to fight guerrillas hiding there.

"We are very angry... Our parliament has granted us the authority to act and within this framework we will do whatever has to be done," Erdogan told reporters.

He said military and government officials would meet at 8 pm (6 p.m. BST) under President Abdullah Gul to decide the response.

Gul said: "Iraq continues to harbour terrorists and Turkey has the right to eliminate the terrorists. Parliament has given the authorisation for this."

In Iraq, Kurdish rebels said they killed at least 16 Turkish soldiers and had taken "several" hostage in the clashes.

"We cannot give details on how many we have captured, all I can say is that they are not in Iraq. They are in Turkey," a senior PKK source told Reuters.

Turkey's military general staff said 12 soldiers and 23 rebels were killed in the clashes. Turkey shelled areas inside Iraq on Sunday morning but no casualties were reported.

In a separate incident on Sunday, a landmine killed one civilian and wounded at least 13 more in a minibus travelling near to where the soldiers were killed.

The United States, Turkey's NATO ally, and Iraq have urged Ankara to refrain from military action, fearing this could destabilise the most peaceful part of Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003 to topple Saddam Hussein.

DEFIANCE

Iraqi Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani said his autonomous region would defend itself if Turkish troops invaded.

"We are not going to be caught up in the PKK and Turkish war, but if the Kurdistan region is targeted, then we are going to defend our citizens," Barzani told reporters after meeting Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, who is also a Kurd.

Turkish soldiers freed after diplomatic push :thimomenos:

By Selcuk Gokoluk Reuters - Sunday, November 4 04:14 pmANKARA (Reuters) - Eight Turkish soldiers captured last month by Kurdish guerrillas were released in northern Iraq on Sunday, a move which could ease public pressure on Turkey's government to launch a major cross-border incursion.

The release of the soldiers came a day after the Iraqi government vowed to hunt down Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants responsible for raids into Turkey.

Washington has urged NATO-ally Turkey to refrain from sending in thousands of troops, saying it could destabilise northern Iraq and cause a bigger regional crisis.

President George W. Bush is due to discuss the situation with Turkey's Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan in Washington on Monday.

"The eight soldiers in question returned (to) the Turkish Armed Forces on November 4," the chief of staff's Web site said. Turkish TV said the soldiers flew home in a military plane and talked to their families by phone after landing.

Turkey reports "intense intervention" in Iraq

By Selcuk Gokoluk (Reuters Mongolion correspondent) - Saturday, December 1 11:34 pmANKARA (Reuters) - Turkey said it inflicted heavy casualties on Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq on Saturday in an "intense intervention" involving helicopters, artillery and a cross-border raid by special forces.

A military official said around 100 special forces crossed into Iraqi territory to hit the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), a day after Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan announced the cabinet had given a green light to such operations.

The army also fired long-range artillery and sent up to six helicopters to bomb a camp used by the PKK 20 km (12 miles) inside Iraq after spotting a group of 50 to 60 guerrillas there, the official said.

"An intense intervention was made on the group and it was detected that the terrorist group had suffered heavy casualties," the army said on its Web site.

A PKK official who asked not to be named told Reuters in Sulaimaniya, northern Iraq, there had been no operation and the group had suffered no casualties. There are an estimated 3,000 PKK rebels operating in the region.

"This news about the Turkish incursion and bombing is not true. There is no Turkish incursion or bombing in northern Iraq," the official said.

The Turkish military official said the special forces had returned to Turkish territory.

"The first operation was carried out on December 1, 2007, and the operations will continue depending on the intelligence provided," the army said in a later statement.

"The operations that will be carried out solely target the PKK terror organisation and they are not against the people living in northern Iraq or the local groups as long as they do not make any hostile act against Turkish armed forces."

Earlier, a spokesman for Iraqi Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani said there had been no incursion by Turkish troops into the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region of northern Iraq. The U.S. military also said it was unaware of any incursion.

Turkey has massed up to 100,000 troops near the mountainous border, backed up by tanks, artillery and warplanes. Saturday's strike did not appear to be the long-awaited major operation by NATO member Turkey to destroy rebel bases.

"This is a limited operation condoned by the international community. I don't expect to see an escalation of violence," said Milliyet newspaper columnist Semih Idiz.

Re: Turkish and Kurd conflict

Turkey bombs northern Iraq

By Sherko Raouf Reuters - Iraq (Reuters) - Turkish warplanes targeting Kurdish rebels bombed villages deep in northern Iraq on Sunday, killing one woman and forcing hundreds of people to flee their homes, local officials said.

In Ankara, the Turkish military's General Staff confirmed in a statement its warplanes had attacked targets of the separatist Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which uses northern Iraq as a base from which to attack security forces inside Turkey.

But the head of the General Staff, General Yasar Buyukanit, quoted by Turkey's Anatolian state news agency, denied any civilian targets were hit and said his forces had acted with the implicit approval of U.S. occupying forces in Iraq.

"In opening Iraqi airspace to this action last night America gave its approval to the action," he said, adding that the PKK fighters could no longer hide from Turkish forces.

A U.S. embassy official, asked to comment on Buyukanit's remarks, said: "We have not approved any decision, it is not for us to approve. However, we were informed before the event (the air strikes)."

Turkish ground forces also shelled areas where the rebels were based, the army statement said. Turkey's NTV television said 50 aircraft had taken part in the three-hour operation.

Pro-separatist Roj TV, quoting PKK sources, said five PKK guerrillas were killed in the overnight bombardment.

The death of the woman was the first reported civilian fatality since Turkey stepped up shelling and air strikes on suspected PKK bases in the Qandil mountains in October.

The mayor of Sankasar town, north of the Iraqi Kurdish city of Sulaimaniya, Abdullah Ibrahim, said 200 families had fled their homes in villages in the Sankasar and Jarawa administrative areas and at least 10 houses had been destroyed.

Commenting on the air strikes, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan praised the armed forces' action and said his government was determined to use every kind of instrument in the fight against terrorism -- diplomatic, political and military.

"We will continue to wage this battle for our nation's unity and peace, both inside and outside Turkey," he said.

DEEP INSIDE IRAQ

The mayors of Jarawa and Sankasar said the air strikes were launched at 2 a.m. (11:00 p.m. British time) and continued for several hours. The villages targeted are about 100 km (60 miles) south of the Turkish border.

The mayors said one woman was killed and at least two people wounded. Fouad Hussein, head of the Kurdistan president's office, confirmed the death and condemned the attack as a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.

In its statement confirming the air strikes, the Turkish General Staff said: "The operations solely target the ... terrorist movement. They are not conducted against people living in northern Iraq or local groups not engaged in enemy activity."

Buyukanit denied the Iraqi Kurdish claims.

"I can categorically state that not a single civilian target, not a single village was hit. Previously identified PKK camps were hit. There is no question of any accident," Anatolian quoted him saying.

The United States, Turkey's NATO ally, has begun sharing intelligence with the Turks about PKK movements inside Iraq. Washington wants to avert a large-scale Turkish ground offensive, fearing this would destabilise the whole region.

Ankara has massed up to 100,000 troops near the mountainous border with northern Iraq, along with tanks and artillery. The Turkish cabinet last month gave a one-year authorisation to its military to conduct cross-border operations against the PKK.

Analysts say a major Turkish land incursion is very unlikely right now, not least because many Kurdish rebels have moved into neighbouring Iran and that weather conditions in northern Iraq are worsening.

Ankara blames the PKK, which seeks a separate Kurdish homeland in southeastern Turkey, for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people since it began its armed struggle in 1984.
