Ο πρωθυπουργός υπερασπίστηκε το νέο νομοσχέδιο για τη μεταναστευτική πολιτική μιλώντας από το βήμα της Βουλής.Με σαφή διάκριση ανάμεσα στην μεταναστευτική πολιτική και την πολιτική ιθαγένειας, επίκληση του ανθρωπισμού αλλά και του ρεαλισμού και με παράλληλο άνοιγμα στην ιδέα ενός Ελληνισμού αποτελούμενου από πολλές και διαφορετικές φυλές, υπερασπίστηκε ο πρωθυπουργός, Γιώργος Παπανδρέου, την απόφαση της κυβέρνησης για χορήγηση της ελληνικής ιθαγένειας στους νόμιμους -όπως υπογράμμισε- μετανάστες.
