British nod to FYROM irks Athens



A decision by the British embassy in Skopje to refer to the “Republic of Macedonia” in official invitations for an embassy function taking place today in the resort of Ohrid has displeased Athens, sources told Kathimerini yesterday.

According to the sources, Britain’s Foreign Office has decided to refer to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) as the “Republic of Macedonia” despite Greek objections.

Britain is just one of several European Union states to have adopted this tactic recently. A few days ago, Luxembourg signed a contract for the protection of its investments with the “Republic of Macedonia.” Poland’s parliament has officially recognized the Balkan state by the latter name. As too have Bulgarian and Romanian authorities. A total of 114 countries, including the USA, China and Russia, have recognized FYROM as ”Macedonia” to date.

Greece has strenuously opposed FYROM’s insistence on being known as “Macedonia” as there is a northern Greek province of that name and Athens fears the move could set a precedent for territorial claims.


(There has got to be something Greece can do as payback to at least some of these countries disrespecting her!)

Not only you, they are disrespecting Serbia. FYROM once was YROM and they cant change that. Just one thing, why do Greece claim it is Greek land when Macedonians speak Serbian language, look like Serbs, have similar culture, and say they are Slavs too ? Dont take this as an insult but I dont understand why do you want Macedonia to be part of Greece ? Makedonia (in Greece) is part where non-slav macedonians lived, and I think they are Greeks but Macedonians have Serbian language, and the rest things I said. Dont take this as an insult, meby I am wrong I am just asking.

The stance of Britain in the issue is not something new.

It is not their fault, but the fault of our (once more) idiotic government who don't tell the British to go and take a flame from Pakistan (or any other of their former colonies) for the 2012 Olympics.

Over 114 countries recognize FYROM as Republic of Macedonia such as Russia, Bulgaria and Romania. Many countries have lots of money invested in that shit little place like you said Hellenic skojpidia (garbage). The good thing with Greece right now is that she has the last say if they are allowed to enter the EU or Nato. All it takes is a veto which Greece will do hopefully.

They are to little and economicaly bad to enter EU, dont you think ? There is no need for veto. And Serbia recognize it as FYROM not as Macedonia

But both FYROM, both Montenegro are going to be eaten by Albania if they dont start new war soon. There are already much albanians on west and NLA (similar to KLA) are still doing crimes in Macedonia.

Very funny thing is that Macedonians were brave enough to forbid USA Citizens to go to Greece via Macedonia or in any other place via Macedonia (so they have to go via Bulgaria). As I saw once when I was going in Greece Americans were out of the bus because they didnt know they have to have visa, and they were 3 days late to come in Greece. Hahahha. That is pretty funny I think they are brave.

You are correct but if countries have so much invested in that dump I wouldnt see why they wouldnt push for them to enter the EU in the future.

Macedonia is Greece, regardless of what races of people may be living there now.

FYROM should be illegal and cease to exist. That land they live in is not theirs to begin with it is Serbian land. Its like the this really a bunch of brainwashed mostly Bulgarians living in Serbian land who claim they a Macedonia which is completely false. Something is wrong with that picture if you ask me.

What do you expect since the fall of Yugoslavia people are running around trying to find a indentity for themselves that is acceptable! The problem is that Western Europe and the US have fallen to the Liberals and politcal correctness and they allow these people to do as they please because they feel sorry for them!!! It doesn't help that Greeks are proud and stubborn so I feel some people will try to punish us by trying chip away at our history? The problem is that we have to stay vigilant and not give and inch or else we lose ALOT more than a mile on this, cause the Turks, Skopians and Albanians wanting to get land from us!!!!
