There are many names in each day. Does that mean that all the names that appear in each day are the Saints' names? There are many Martyrs like you mentioned, Ellinas.

Yes, every day has its own share of Saints. But, here is Hellas and unworthiness rules. I mean that even in religion some people gain more <<points>> to be declared Saints by church. I speak about the rich ones who left behind all their wealth or did charities etc because they were capable of .
Foe example : Saints Helen and Constantine ( mother of Emperor and Emperor)
Saint Basileios : A rich man who gave his fortune away.

Poor people just havent the potential to become saint

I did not know that there are so many Saints, one for each day! Are the Saints for all of Christianity or each "sect" has its own Saints (like Catholic Saints, Orthodox Saints, Protestant Saints, etc.)?

Although I understand why people feel the need to pray to their Saint, isn't it against the Christian religion that one should only believe in God and no other god/saint etc.?
The Saints of Orthodoxy are people who died for their faith or contributed a lot to the Orthodox Faith. They are honored by the Church and are considered holy, but they can't replace God in any way. Orthodoxy is the Faith to God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit above all.

And, Ellinas, I thought that people become Saints because of their good deeds to other people (like Mother Teresa, etc.). I guess the persons who did not want to deny their faith and who became Saints for that used to live in the earlier times of Christianity.
A big part of the Orthodox saints lived in the early times of Christianity, before the establishment of the Byzantine Empire. Also another very big part of the Orthodox church lived during the Byzantine era, and they were declared saints because of their deeds and their offer to the Church. The people who were declared saints after 1700 are a few.

Mother Teresa is not a Saint in Orthodoxy.

Ellinas, is it possible for you to find for me a link to a Greek calendar with the names of the Saints for each day? If you cannot find in English, in Greek it is more than fine too. Thank you very much in advance.
As I saw you already found one in English. In addition I know this Church calendar, in the Greek wikipedia:

Re: Is Orthodoxy losing ground?

Thanks for your explanations and patience with my ignorant questions, Ellinas. I learned a lot about Orthodoxy as well as that there is a Greek Wikipedia, can you believe that!

That Greek calendar is great, it is very useful to have. Thanks a lot for looking.
