| GR Fanatic | Re: Do you go to church? When I was young my mother would make me go week in week out, kinda enjoyed it after the 20th time, however as I got older sorta lost interest, but I still do go when I have the time, it is nice to go I think. One thing that literally made me love church is Easter time, well here (Think this is how they do it everywhere?) the priest take the ebidafio around the block (in my case), and well living in London there are loads of religions and races, however when all the brilliant GreekS just walk into that main street, it made me feel proud to be Greek, I mean all the Greeks were walking in the middle of the road and everything police where there aswell. Perhaps though it was a spur of the moment type of thing but walking with all those Greeks does make you feel proud, especially when you know the rest of the outside world is watching you. One thing that slightly gets on my nerves, is the priest, not that money is an issue however they keep asking it, the last time I went people went around 4 times just to collect money! |

| GR Elite | Re: Do you go to church? I am the product of a mixed marriage. Although I am full Greek, my mother is a devout Orthodox Christian and my father was a devout atheist. My father, however, made us go to church because he felt it was the church that held together the Greek community, language and traditions. Of course, as a young adult I didn’t go to church often, but after my children were born I thought it was important to them. I believe that I am raising good citizens of the world. They will be responsible and respectful and follow the “Golden Rule”. And the church is back up support. It’s a place they feel they belong and are understood…a place where our traditions and language are reinforced. If we set aside the pettiness of social politics and money (which unfortunately go hand in hand with any religion), Orthodoxy is quite beautiful. We partake of rituals that are 2000 years old, are surrounded by Byzantine music and art and celebrate the ideology of love. There can’t be anything wrong with that. |

| GR Rookie | Re: Do you go to church? I try and go to church as much as I can, and as much as time allows. It's hard when there is not enough hours in a day. When I finish my degree I plan to attend regularly. But until then, some of the things I don't agree with at church: 1.) What kind of priest wears a Brittney Spears head set? Like he's ready to bust out hammer time and shiit. 2.) I really hate it when a person donates money, yes thats right, DONATES money and the response is .... "we would like to thank you for donating 0.5479 cents per day to the Greek Orthodox Church, if you feel as if this is an error please let us know." Really, is that necessary? Like WTF? 3.) I know some people might be half greek, or might not speak it, or live in America, which is great and all .... but come on this a GREEK ORTHODOX CHURCH and if you don't like the service in GREEK then go else where. |
