The French use the word "spore" to mean the seed of the flowers, from what I remember from my high school Science class. They use the word "pepin" to mean the pit. Would there be a Greek word like pepino or something like that?

Peponi (pepon in older form) means melon in Greek. I don't know if there is any relation.

No, I don't think so, because the word for melon in French is also "melon". In Greek, I think the word melon means world, or something like that, right?
