Paros Cyclades Greece

The island of Paros, one of the most popular European tourist hotspots, has a total area of

165 square kilometers and a coastline of 120km. Its shape can be described as a plump-

pear. It is an island of fertile valleys, hills dotted with small churches, picturesque villages

and sandy beaches. More precisely, the visitor can find numerous beaches with crystal

clear waters, including Chrissi Akti, Pounda, Pisso Livadi, Parikia etc. The constant strong

wind makes the place a favored windsurfing location. Paros is connected daily by air with

Athens and the time of the flight is only 35 minutes. If you prefer, you can take the ferry-

boat from Piraeus or many other islands. Paros has a wealth of different types of

accommodation, including hotels, studios and camping sites. The visitor gets, also, to

choose from a variety of tavernas, cafeterias, bars and commercial shops. It is world-wide

known for its fine white and translucent marble. If you like, you can take a day trip to

nearby Antiparos where you can visit the beautiful cave and beaches. At its narrowest, the

channel between Paros and Antiparos isles than 2km.

Paros is a member of the Cyclades Island group in Greece. It lies just west of Naxos in the

Aegean Sea, separated by a 5 mile wide channel. Paros’ municipality includes many

smaller islands that are uninhabited, and it is the third largest island in the Cyclades

group. Paros is, today, a very popular tourist destination, due to the beautiful rolling hills,

vineyards, and the serenity of its beaches. Paros’ largest beach is Chrissi Akti, or Golden

Beach. It lies on the east coast facing toward Naxos. Because of a constant strong wind,

Golden Beach is famed for its wonderful windsurfing.

Parikia is the capital of Paros, and holds many beautiful sights, such as the ruins of a

Venetian castle, built on a rock beside the sea, and the Church of Ekatondapiliani, which is

one of Greece’s most important Byzantine monuments. In Parikia, you will find traditional

Cycladic styles houses, whitewashed with blue doors, window frames, and shutters.

Naoussa is a beautiful village and features whitewashed houses and tiny chapels, as well

as beautiful beaches. Marpissa is a larger village where you will find an another ancient

Venetian castle. Paros is also well known for its fine white marble, used for china and fine

marbles all over the world.
