FLYSHIP 80: Flying… boat

It has much bigger speed than a boat and similar to that of a plane, it also executes faithfully and with precision the timetable of its itineraries, it ensures for its passengers the comfort of a plane it is not affected by undulation, while its ticket costs as much as the equivalent of a boat.
We speak about the ultramodern technology ship of the phenomenon of surface effect with commercial name FLYSHIP 80, which is expected to bring revolution in the marine transportations from 2009.
The appearance of FLYSHIP 80 tangles since it is not few that characterize it plane or hydroplane. However, it belongs to the category of a boat, since from 2002 the ships of "phenomenon of surface effect" were categorized as boats by the International Organization of Shipping (IMO), while from 2004 exists in Greece and corresponding provision in force (P.D. 171/2004). Inspiration on its manufacture constituted the the gull’s flight, which often flies above the waves without shaking for a long time its feathers.
Similarly, the flying… boats exploit the phenomenon of surface "Wing in ground effect" (WIG), thanks to which they are kept in distance by the sea or the soil with the enough big force of air that is enclaved between the wing and the sea. Concretely, when an aerodynamic form ship of technology WIG and type A flies a little above the surface of the sea, a strong layer of air is created, which also follows it in its movement to the front. This force is 250% bigger than when the ship was found in the surface of the sea or a lot above of it. Thus, it needs machine of small horsepower for its movement contrary to a plane or a boat that they require machines of much bigger horsepower in order to transport the same charge, because first flies much more tally and the second moves into the water.
The ships will be manufactured by the German company FLYSHIPGmbH and the exclusive rights of collaboration in Greece and Cyprus has Panagiotis Zagklis. The statements of the last one reflect in what stage is found the whole process: "Just very recently it was announced by the marketing department of the company FLYSHIP GmbH that already they have advanced in an investment of more than 50 million Euros for the designing and planning in the manufacture of the ship that will internationally become in collaboration with very well internationally known companies, like Airbus, Siemens, etc while at the same time high-level executives of the company are found in negotiations on the covering of the next phase in investment (amount of 90 million Euros) and which is the manufacture of the 4 firstFLYSHIP 80 for the region of Baltic sea (Germany)".
In the advantages ofFLYSHIP 80, that will transport 80 passengers each one (still is also sold the publicationFLYSHIP 100 with 96 passengers in places of economic category, with the same technical characteristics), are included the low consumption of shipping fuel, the low cost of operation-maintenance that is connected immediately with the cheap tickets, the decreased exterior noise because the cover that the helixes have, the possibility for the travel to be continued in the case of damage from its two machines, the easy access in the existing harbour infrastructures due to the collapsible wings, the fact that is particularly friendly in the environment and finally the ship is equipped with the last word of technology in shipping aids and bodies based so much to the most modern regulations of High Speed Code (HSC) as also to the most currentsecurity configurations of the internationally known SOLAS agreement.
In the Greek seas we indicatively report that with FLYSHIP 80 we might reach Chania in 1 hour and 20' from Piraeus, traveling with speed of more than 200 km/hour and "flying" up to 12 meters above the wave and with indicative price of freight round 70 Euros, when the fastest boat of Greek cabotage wants roughly 5 hours in order to cover the same itinerary with almost the same ticket price. At the same time with ship FLYSHIP 80 exists in the market and its smaller publication with the commercial name Airfish 8 that is disposed by the company of Singapore. The production ship Airfish 8 will have the possibility to transport 10-12 passengers, while it develops speed of 160 km/hour with a car’s machine!!! In deed very recently they were completed with success the test ways of the original ship in the region of Thailand and have begun the processes for the manufacture of the second ship that is expected to be completely consummated in 11 months roughly from now in order that it is put in the world market for sale.

I actually just saw this and it looks real cool. Something I would definately like to try out when I visit Greece again..
