Re: Name Day v. Birthday Celebrations

Thanks for the link, Female. :filaki3:

Santa came from Turkey? :err: I would never have guessed.

Ellinas, isn't Easter for Jesus? I think the Jews don't believe in Jesus, so why would they have an Easter? Is that what they call Passover? Isn't Passover to remember the Exodus or something like that?

Wow, students have 2 weeks for Easter, that's great. Nice break after the winter.

The day before the Easter we celebrate the ressurection of Jesus, but the Pascha used to be a Jewish holiday - the ressurection happened the same period that holiday was being celebrated, that's why they are related.

I just searched and found out that in English it is called Passover, yes. I called it Easter too because in Greece we use the word Pascha for both Easter and Passover.

Gee, I did not notice the link to Myra. Thanks for pointing that out. I did not know there was a country called Licia. What a nice amphitheatre. Was Licia like a province of Greece?

The early Lycians were Anatolian people. There is a possibility they were of Pelasgean descent, but they weren't Greeks. The area was settled by Greeks later and the centuries that followed Greeks made the majority of Lycia's population. Of course till they were "Turkized".

And Lycia is a Greek name. The early Lycians called it something else.

Ah, Ellinas, you are a real encyclopedia of Greek knowledge. Thanks for all the info.

Yes, Prokomenos, and that's what makes life interesting.

Re: Name Day v. Birthday Celebrations

Thanks Smiley. But "encyclopedia" is an exaggeration. A lot of people know our history much more detailed than I do. I just know a basic outline of my history, like every Greek has to do I believe.
