Greek-American novelists

Just curious if any of you read a lot of fiction? There are some good Greek-American writers out there, Harry Mark Petrakis being one of them. He writes stories set around Chicago's Greektown and really captures the community nicely. His novels include "Nick the Greek" and "The Orchards of Ithaca", which centers on the protagonist, Orestes Panos, owner of a restaurant on Halsted St., and how he struggles with married life and growing into middle age.

Another popular author to check out, if you haven't already, is George Pelecanos. He mainly writes police procedural/detective novels set in the Washington, DC area, and his stories often have Greek-American characters. One of my favorite books of his is called "The Big Blowdown." It's a "noir" piece about a Greek-American community in 1930's D.C.

I did when I was younger but never thought to read Greek-American fiction. Usually when I read Greek items it was historical stuff or when you studied ancient writers in school. I wonder if their are other writers from areas of large Greek populations as well (NY, Toronto, Melbourne etc.)
We should at least consider them just to support our own the same way jewish writers and even other groups like chinese writers get their local populations in North America to buy their stuff.
