"Greek youths who are being converted to Islam", this is the title of the painting drawn by a French orientalist Jean Leon Gerome , in the 19th century.

Its was a disgusting thing and still is a disgusting thing for any one to convert to Islam. If I had that painting I would burn it.

Back then unfortunately many people who where under Ottoman rule did not have a choice but to give up their sons to join the jannisaries.

Everyone knows that there are many converted Armenians in Turkey. So many Armenians converted and hide their identity to save their families. I guess its same for Greeks. Recently I read about racial anthropology in Anatolia, if i can find it i will try to post.
