I recall reading a book a fews year back on US military and the back pages listed causalities and there were Greek names there. (can't recall the book)
The problem is also that in the older days is that Greeks would of Anglo-fied their last names so it was harder to detect.
Note: there were even Greeks who fought on both sides of the Civil war according to AHEPHA.

I have read somewhere (I believe Charles Moskos), that around 70,000 Greek immigrants either enlisted in the US Army in 1917-18 or were drafted. It definitely makes sense, because when viewing the regimental rosters of the US divisions, there are Greeks in nearly every company (several hundred men to a company). This doesn't count those Greeks whose names were changed, and are therefore indistinguishable amongst other groups. |

Furthermore, Greek Americans also won many Distinguished Service Crosses in both conflicts (and later conflicts). Check out George Dilboy (ww1), Hercules Korgis (ww1), Christos Karaberis (ww2), William Tsakanikas (ww2) to name a few.
Reportedly, the Greeks had the highest percentage of men serving in the US Army of any immigrant group in the country during WWI. It certainly makes sense, given the fact that Greek community consisted primarily of males between the ages of 15-40 at that point. If you visit the Find a Grave website, you can see the American Meuse Argonne Campaign cemetery in France from Autumn 1918, and sadly, you will find the names of many fallen Greeks (particularly in the 'K' section).
Due to the larger mobilization of WWII and growth of the American-born Greek population, even more Greek Americans fought in the US Army, Navy and Marine Corps than the previous War. |
