| GR Elite | What languages do you speak? Since there are a lot of Diaspora here in numerous countries I was curious what languages people speak? Here in Ontario, Canada I'm fluent in English, speak the mandatory "high school" level French as well as Greek.

| GR Elite | Re: What languages do you speak? When I was younger, I really liked Julio Iglesias, so much that I took a Spanish course. Well, I had trouble rolling the rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr's. But worse, my teacher did not look like Julio at all or sound like him. Funny how a language may sound so nice in songs but so differently in real life. The same can be said for Italian (which I did not try to learn even though I really like Pavarotti, because of the "disaster" with Spanish), I think. | GR Elite | Re: What languages do you speak? Apollyon, it struck me what you said. In another thread, I referred to a man whom I knew who is very intelligent and humble. He spoke very little, but what he said, everyone listens to. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. |

| GR Elite | Re: What languages do you speak? English and French are what we call official languages in Canada. French is used mostly in the province of Quebec, and in some "English" provinces where there are big French populations. What LadyMontreal referred to is Quebecois, which from what I understand, used to be spoken in an area in Old France, a kind of dialect we could say. It sounds different from the Parisian accent and has slang words, and one needs to get used to it to understand what people are saying. In France, not all French people speak with the Parisian accent, there are many other dialects/accents also, such as the one in the Mediterranean area. LadyMontreal, welcome to the forum. | GR Elite | Re: What languages do you speak? Just to add that in Canada, if you go to an interview for example, and they ask whether you are bilingual, and you know Greek and English, or Greek and French, that is not bilingual.
