A few years ago I took a course in Japanese , which was interesting, but if you have noone to practice it with (apart from when you are in class) it proved to be pointless to learn . But it was fun trying an asian language! Ive also taken an Italian for beginners aswell (again out of interest) and here, my "greek accent" came in handy lol
What I lament is that my children (both under 10years of age) do not speak Greek , whereas I do ...and yes that is my fault . I plan to get a teacher for them , as they do understand basic everyday words and phrases .
I have to say I envy people who speak 3 or more languages ... that would be awesome , to be able to do .

Hey Soulitaire, you studied Japanese, that is interesting. A language I would like to learn is Mandarin (the official Chinese language), it sounds very intellectual, I guess obviously because mandarins used to be the elite intellectuals in the country. Basically mandarins were people who studied to pass national exams to become public servants to serve the people, and supposedly only the best should do it. Apart from the Chinese vocabulary which I would have to learn because each character is a word, which is the difficult part of learning the language, I think there is less difficulty than Western languages because there is no conjugation of the verbs, no plural and no declension of the names. I think the Japanese language must be constructed more or less the same as it is based on Chinese. |

We learnt japanese romaji style ...not with characters so much , in the beginners course . Romaji is the romanisation of japanese ie using the latin/ english alphabet ..
All I can remember these days is : "konnichiwa" (hello) & "Sayonara" (bye) lol

Ha ha, Soulitaire, I knew sayonara from the Marlo Brando movie without having to learn Japanese To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. Oh yeah, there is also latinization of Chinese, which would make it easier to learn I guess. I am actually only interested to learn how to speak a language nowadays, it takes too much to invest time and patience, both of which I don't have, to learn how to read and write too. |
