Total Points: 648,465,573.31 | EU aid to firestriken regions The European Parliament Plenum ratified with a large majority on Thursday the granting of economic aid to Greece, amounting to 89.8 million euros from the European Union's Solidarity Fund, to handle damage caused by the destructive wildfires last summer.
Addressing the plenum, ruling New Democracy party Eurodeputy Margaritis Schinas said that "thanks to the timely action of the state apparatus and the assistance of all the Eurodeputy colleagues at the Budgets Committee we achieved the activation of a complicated EU aid apparatus in record time. The destructive wildfires in Evia and the Peloponnese, last summer, shocked European public opinion. With its decision today, the EU is proving in practice its solidarity for the Greek citizens."
In parallel, in a relevant press release he issued, Schinas underlined the considerable role played in this context by the public audience that had been organised, at his initiative, at the European Parliament's Budgets Committee on May 6. ΑΝΑ |

Only a small part of the economical help promised by the government reached the fire victims. So far the inhabitants of the destroyed areas are rebuilting their towns by their own funds. At least I hope they will receive the aid of EU.
As for reforestation programmes, same. Nothing yet. |
