Why does Athens sound like some kind of ghetto?

Man detained over bar killing

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Ion Nicolae, a 28-year-old Romanian, outside a bar in Attikis Square in central Athens four months ago. Police said yesterday that the suspect is an Albanian national who went by the alias of Mario. Officers found him in possession of a handgun and later discovered a Kalashnikov rifle at his apartment. Police believe “Mario” was a member of a gang in Athens that was expecting to receive a large shipment of hashish from Albania.

Snatchers bagged

Police arrested a family of four Bulgarian nationals, including their two children, in central Athens on Saturday. The four visited Greece on a regular basis to allegedly go on bag- and purse-snatching sprees, authorities said yesterday. The family is believed to have targeted victims on the capital’s public transport system and would snatch purses and bags by cutting the shoulder strap with a razor. Police found in their possession 7,000 euros in cash, small amounts of foreign currency, jewelry, mobile phones and laptop computers.

Drug ring

Police said yesterday they have arrested five suspects, an Egyptian and four Albanian nationals, in Athens who are believed to be members of an international drug smuggling ring and confiscated small quantities of cannabis. Police said the suspects have been linked to last month’s arrest of a retired police officer in Ioannina, northern Greece, who was found in possession of almost 100 kilos of cannabis

Re: Crime in Greece by assorted riffraff

An increase in the free flow and movement of peoples, immigration equates with a corresponding increase in criminality. This is a fact, not if and but. Look at the large majority of itinerant travelers- they constitute a large body of floating vagrants-. We create our own problems, with the philosophy of thought, in vogue, that everyone has the right to move and settle wherever it likes. An outdated idea past its pension. Crime statistics in every city that harbor a substantial number of immigrant population reveals that migrants are responsible for 78-80 % of criminal activity. We are doomed, we create our own problems and then we seemingly appear to solve them , the solution more often than not brings in its wake the creation of other equally if not thornier problems. The lessons are taken directly from the leafs of the corrupt establishment. We have corrupt politicians and deceitful cheats running public affairs, their actions in itself are corrupt and venal, the penal system only exists in text books and its application always ends up favouring the criminal and vagrant. Illegal immigration is a crime, anything "illegal" constitutes a misdeamenour and an action reproachful in itself and demanding the strong hand of justice. In practice the opposite takes place, a small criminal action begets a bigger criminal behaviour. What business can possibly be pursuing a Bulgarian, Negroes, Asians ,Romanian, Albanian, turkish and other crooked denizens "vacationing" in Greece ? It is a demented situation. One would understand if they were proper tourists, but they are not; they are a flotaing criminal flotsam .

Sounds that way. Their behavior has little to do with poverty. Wasn't too long ago Greece was amongst one of Europe's poorest countries. But did you see the Greeks running around like animals behaving like Albanians? Never.

Re: Crime in Greece by assorted riffraff

More foreigner committed crimes in Greece. This is from today. Ok so this guy should have kept his wife in the Ukraine where she wouldn't be cheating. I guess the Greek men were too tempting it's not her fault, LOL. Probably cheating with an Albanian though. Ehh, one less foreigner.

Man stabs wife in jealous rage

A Ukrainian man yesterday stabbed to death his 52-year-old wife in the middle of the street in Saronida, southeast of Athens, as he believed she had been cheating on him, police said. After the alleged act the man called his boss and said he would be late for work as he had just killed his wife and was waiting for police to arrive at his home.

Maybe he was waiting for the police to turn himself in and get deported.
