Presidential Summit Underway in Skopia,Turk special guest!

02 May 2008 Skopje _ Skopian President is looking to build support for his country’s NATO and EU bids as Presidents from Central and Southeast European countries gather there for a summit.

“This meeting is of special importance for Skopia. It represents the biggest political event ever to be organised in Skopia,” Branko Crvenkovski said in his opening speech.

Crvenkovski will be hosting presidents of Austria, Germany, Croatia, Moldova, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Montenegro, Slovakia, Serbia, Ukraine, Hungary, Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Albania, during the two-day summit.

Turkey’s President, Abdullah Gul is a special guest.

The enlargement of the European Union as well as the influence it has over the countries’ economies and energy sectors will be the key issues at the talks.

Skopian President is also expected to lobby for the country’s NATO and EU membership bid after Greece vetoed Skopian invitation to join the NATO military alliance in April due to the unresolved “name” dispute.
