An allowance will also be given to single parent families with one or more children up to 16 years-old. The government’s economic staff is also examining to increase third child bonus from present 2.000 to 2.500 euros. Three-children family unions describe the measures as favourable , however, they also claim a pension for 3 children mothers. In the meantime, as of August, 16 OGA will start paying allowances corresponding to July and August to 324 thousand families. Benefits include third child allowance, large family allowance, pension, and the 2000 euros bonus to mothers who gave birth to a third child. ERT

The last 5 years there was an increase in the population of Greece because there was a massive entrance of immigrants in the country. The population still still increases as there is still immigration. But according to the birth and death rate of the permanent population, the population is decreasing. Without the immigration waves, the 0.21 % would be a negative number. They are 9.62 births every 10.33 deaths to make you understand. So yes, there is a breakdown in the average age. The low birth rate has as a result the average age becoming bigger and bigger. Last edited by Ellinas; 08-27-2007 at 02:30 PM. Reason: mistake

Indeed, it is a very low (negative) rate. Canada has the same problem (I don't know the rate but it is low) that is why we have been allowing immigration too. Otherwise, the burden on the young generation would be enormous with the ageing population. We have seen many waves of immigrants from different countries. Because the country is so big, I guess anyone who is "sane" enough to want to live in such freezing weather can come. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater.
