Karamanlis on Turkey's EU course, FYROM

Karamanlis on Turkey's EU course, FYROM

Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis on Monday commented on Turkey's thorny European accession course, speaking in the wake of a meeting with his Slovenian counterpart Janez Jansa in Athens, as the Greek premier reiterated that the "door must remain open for all that want to join the European family."

There is a delay in the entry talks. Getting Turkey into the EU is like trying to get a retard to solve a calculas problem!

Only islamist Turks want to join the EU, seculars don't want anymore and they represent 75-80% of the country.

So Megale,I'll say again don't worry,it will never happen.;)

Who cares if Turkey gets in the E.U. I dont see why people make such a big thing about Turkey in the E.U. They are millions of Turkish people in Europe now. Anyways Turkey is best not to be in EU because then they will be much more poorer then what Turkey is now.

Re: Karamanlis on Turkey's EU course, FYROM

I read an article today in the Globe and Mail (Canadian national newspaper). Unfortunately, I'm in another city facilitating a congress so I don't have access to a scanner etc. so I have to just give you a few highlights. Maybe a Canadian member could find and post this article. If I can find it, I'll put it on. Anyway, here are the highlights.

Turkish secularists are divided on the EU membership.
The Turkish Islamic party wants it. Here's why: they believe that membership will "release 70 million Turks into Europe". With the very high birth rate, these fundamentalists believe they will overrun Europe in less than a generation.
Even though the official party only received about 15% of the popular vote, the secular parties divided the rest of the votes so badly, that the Islamic party could end up holding a significant portion of the power, maybe even the leadership.
The Islamic party wants a return to sharia laws; burkas for women; and a general rejection of western ideas. Is this who we want in the EU?
