| GR Rookie | Buying computer in Greece Hi everyone, I didn't see a IT related section, so it goes here.. My sis lives in Greece, Samos island. She wants to get a computer, but knows nothing about them. I'a a techie, but explaining computer stuff to someone who's totoally new to it is useless. I don't want her to waste money, and would like to help, but I'm not in Greece and unfortunatelly haven't been there yet. And I don't know what are her options of getting a decent PC w/o overpaying. so, (a) Are there major online computer stores that sell in Greece? (I sure there are, what are they?) Does anyone by any chance knows if Dell, HP, Gateway... sell online to customers from Greece? what other options would you recommend? (b) how does inet works on the islands? is broadband connection available? what kind? cable/dsl/sattelite? what are the prices inet use in Greece? I'd really appreciate any help and suggestions! Thanks! |

| GR Fanatic | Re: Buying computer in Greece A computer would work in Greece just as in any country. If anything the voltage is different. Dont have to worry about an internet connection Im sure their are connections on all the islands but DSL you will find most likely. |

All these companies, especially the four first, are known in Greece so you are not in the danger of overpaying. They all offer the average computer prices of Greece. Quote:
Sattelite internet is also spread but I would suggest DSL as sattelite is very expensive. Cable is very rare in Greece. If she lives in a small village where DSL is not available, the solution is dial-up or ISDN. Unless you are willing to pay for a sattelite connection. Now about the prices it depents the speed and the company. You can view a catalogue with the monthly prices of most of the companies here: To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 1 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Personally I pay 36 euros per month for a 2 Mbps ADSL connection with the company OTE. If OTE is the only company available in the place your sister lives the price will be similar with mine. If other companies are available too she will be able to get faster internet with lower prices. OTE is the only company that has coverage in every corner of Greece so they have a monopoly in many places that's why their prices are higher. | ||

She can go in the above link, type her phone number and chose the type of her line, and the she will learn if DSL is available in her village. If she finds out that DSL is available there, she can start searching which companies are available there and which one is in the best regarding the price. |
