I also checked the net by curiousity and this one site http://www.macedonia.info/dorians.htm clearly state that Spartans where Dorians to. |

| Re: Alexander the Great New Research Definitely the Spartans were Dorians. The Spartans are like the "poster-boys" for the Dorians. There is no doubt about that. The difficulty with trying to arrange these ancient tribes of Hellas, is that there were so many sub-tribes and clans, within other tribes. The three main tribes of ancient Hellas were the Dorians, Aeolians, Ionians, but they were many others as well, with sub-tribes. Those sub-tribes had other tribes....etc. This may be a very difficult area in trying to analyze and study the people of ancient Hellas. |

| Re: Alexander the Great New Research And one more thing. The older the sources are, regarding ancient historians and biographers...like Hesiod, Aristotle, Pausanias, Pindar, etc...the more they are likely to be credible. This is because their accounts have been proven to be accurate by contemporary scholarly analytical works and archaeological evidence. |

A good source is either Homer or Hesiod for names. I know Homer mentions over 280 cities...each Hellenic city had a sub-tribe, and I use the term loosely here. I know that it's a daunting task, but it's worth it. But i think, this is where the anthropologists come in. Lol.

| Re: Alexander the Great New Research Seems very interesting although Im not to sure about the Arcadia part. If they brought back Alexanders remains they would of brought it back to Macedonia not Sparta, not Athens or any where else.

Originally Posted by Epikourios37x The main reason why Alexander's remains could have been brought to Gortynia is because in that vicinity of ancient Gortynos is Mount Lykaios...the birthplace of Zeus Lykaios (the Enlightened One). He believed he was the Son of Zeus. (Also he was confirmed to be his son by the Oracle at Delphi and the Oracle at the Ammoneion of Zeus Ammon...who was the Egyptian equivalent of Zeus Lykaios). If you read all of his biographical accounts from credible ancient sources, Alexander wanted to be buried in the land of his Father, when he died. The ancient Hellenes knew of Mount Lykaios as being the holy vicinity of the spirit of Zeus...that is why the Arcadians called it also Mount Olympos. That is why Alexander went to Gortynos at age 20...Gortynos at that time was a mere village. But he went there because Mount Lykaion is in close distance of the city and acknowledged himself as a Pelasgian/Arkadian...in which Pelasgos was believed to have been a Son of Zeus himself.
All in all, if you connect the dots, there is a strong argument for his remains to have been brought back to Greece, especially to Gortynos. If I could, I would post my 80 page plus research. | I thought this was plausible.
